Jasprit Bumrah, India's pace spearhead, has been named the ICC Men's Player of the Month for December 2024, thanks to his exceptional bowling in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The award recognizes Bumrah's match-winning performances during India's challenging tour of Australia, where he finished as the leading wicket-taker in the five-match Test series.
Bumrah bagged a staggering 32 wickets, with 22 of them coming in three Test matches played in December. His average of 14.22 with the ball was outstanding, and his ability to consistently trouble the Australian batting lineup earned him the Player of the Series honor as well.
The fast bowler outshone fellow nominees Australian Captain Pat Cummins and South African Rising All-rounder Dane Paterson to claim the prestigious ICC award. His efforts on the tour not only established him as one of the finest bowlers in the world but also helped him reach the significant milestone of 200 Test wickets. Bumrah became the fourth-fastest in terms of balls bowled to achieve this feat, and the quickest Indian pacer to do so.
India may have lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 1-3, but Bumrah's individual performances were a beacon of hope for the side. In a series where India's batting struggled, Bumrah's relentless pace and accuracy gave the team a fighting chance in each game.
Expressing his gratitude for the award, Bumrah said, "I am thrilled to be named the ICC Men's Player of the Month for December. It is always humbling to be chosen for individual accolades, and it is always nice to be recognized for your efforts. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy was one of the most closely-fought contests ever, and it was an honour for me to go out there and perform for my country."
Bumrah's recognition as the ICC Men's Player of the Month comes as no surprise to fans and pundits, who have long praised his ability to adapt and dominate in all conditions. His contributions during the tour of Australia will be remembered as some of the finest bowling performances in recent Test cricket history.
