England’s young batting sensation, Harry Brook, continues to make waves in the cricket world following his stellar triple-century against Pakistan in the first Test at Multan. The 317-run knock, which included 29 fours and 3 sixes, has not only impressed fans but also earned him high praise from former England fast bowler James Anderson. Brook's commanding innings showcased his aggressive style and composed temperament, solidifying his place as a future star of English cricket.
James Anderson, England’s all-time leading Test wicket-taker, didn’t hold back in expressing his admiration for Brook. Speaking on the Tailenders podcast, Anderson compared Brook to two of England’s finest batsmen—Joe Root and Kevin Pietersen—stating that the 24-year-old has the potential to surpass them both.
"He's on the way to being in the top three that I've played with. It's Root, Pietersen, and him. He's definitely got all the attributes to overtake them," said Anderson, reflecting on Brook’s exceptional batting abilities.
Brook’s ability to switch gears and adapt his approach, much like Root and Pietersen, makes him a standout player. Anderson emphasized that Brook has a unique combination of the qualities possessed by both Root and Pietersen, which could help him become England’s greatest batter ever.
"He's just got everything. Without trying to big him up too much because he's still really early in his Test career, I do think that he's got the perfect amount of each of those two and that's what will make him the best that we've ever had," Anderson added.
Brook’s 317 off 322 balls against Pakistan was a masterclass in intent and control, with Pakistan’s bowlers unable to settle into any rhythm. Anderson was particularly impressed with Brook’s adaptability, noting his ability to dominate an attack or play longer innings when required.
"But he's got the shots of both Root and Pietersen. He can destroy an attack if he wants to, he can play a longer innings if he needs to," Anderson stated.
Anderson also pointed out that, like Joe Root, Brook’s love for batting is evident in all formats. Whether it’s Test cricket, ODIs, or T20s, Brook’s hunger for runs is relentless.
"The thing that's really similar between Root and Brook is that they love batting. They literally couldn't care less what format it is. They just want to bat," Anderson remarked.
