Former Bangladesh captain Jahanara Alam has expressed her intention to pursue a coaching career after retirement. On Friday, she attended a Level A coaching workshop in Mirpur, led by the country's top coach Mohammad Salahuddin.

Jahanara last played international cricket in May 2023 and has since been outside the national team setup. She has been striving to catch the selectors' attention by excelling in the ongoing Women's Dhaka Premier League, where she has taken 13 wickets in five matches with an economy rate of 3.42 in the 50-over tournament.

"Well I feel so (coaching as a career option) and I feel so because I love coaching and I love playing cricket. Somebody offered me different roles and I said I was not interested," Jahanara told reporters when her attention was drawn to her plan.

"I love coaching and maybe in future if Allah wants something, I will be there, but for now I want to play cricket and I want to continue playing cricket with the blessings of Allah," she said adding that participating in these types of workshop also helps as a cricketer.

"When you participate in coaching level courses, it helps in your game to an extent. I just wanted to take this chance as it gives me an opportunity to enhance my knowledge as a cricketer," she said.

"Look what Sir (Salahuddin) was telling me, as a player, I have passed those situations so it is easier for me to relate to. This will certainly be a pathway and it will help develop coaches."
