The final of the ICC World Test Championship is knocking at the door. Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne wants to play his best in the match.
Labuschagne has a great streak in Tests. He has held the position of the number one batter in the ICC Test rankings for a long time. In the WTC final match against India too, the responsibility of the Australia batting lineup will be on the shoulders of Labuschagne. The batter is ready to fulfill that responsibility well.
Looking ahead to the final, Labuschagne said, "Naturally, anyone that is batting No.3 for Australia is going to have responsibility. Even in 2019 (last time in England for Ashes) it was my responsibility, it was my job to score runs and if I didn’t score runs they would find someone else to do my job and I don’t think that changes. It is about finding ways to score runs and contribute to the side in as many games as I can.”
Many of Labuschagne's teammates played in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL). But Labuschagne spent that time in England. He played for Glamorgan in the English county and prepared himself for the upcoming Test Championship final and the Ashes. The batter scored 508 runs with 2 centuries in 8 innings for Glamorgan. He believes that this preparation of county cricket will help in the coming days.
He added, "I have been coming back for five years now. It is just part of my normal routine of coming here. I love coming here, I love playing County cricket, I love the team at Glamorgan, I enjoy it so much otherwise I wouldn’t be coming back. It just helps that this year is a Test Championship Final and Ashes year so it is very helpful for leading into the series."
India's pacers are also going to be a threat to the Aussie batters in England's conditions, Labuschagne knows very well. About this, he further said, “Two months ago we played against India, so in terms of seeing them and knowing their actions and what they do we are pretty clear on that. With the Dukes ball in their hand they are going to be able to showcase their skills a lot more.”
India and Australia are going to meet in the final match of the Test Championship at The Oval in London on June 7.
