Ireland have named a formidable 15-man squad on Wednesday (May 24) for next month's crucial 10-team ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe.
Andrew Balbirnie will lead the pace-heavy Ireland team in the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe, from which two teams will qualify for the tournament in India later in the year.
"We’re heading into a big few months and it’s looking at what personnel we need from a tactical point of view, who are in form, and a squad composition that suits the conditions we are likely to face," Ireland men’s team selector, Andrew White said.
The World Cup qualifiers will begin on June 18 and end on July 9. Ireland are in Group 'B' along with Oman, Scotland, Sri Lanka, and United Arab Emirates. However, only one team from this group will qualify for the World Cup. Supposedly, former world champions Sri Lanka are seemingly ahead.
On the other hand, former world champions West Indies are in Group A with hosts Zimbabwe. The remaining three teams in the group are Nepal, Netherlands, and USA. One team from this group will also qualify for the World Cup.
Ireland will play their first match on June 19, against Oman. Their opponents are Scotland on June 21. Besides, the team will play against Sri Lanka on June 25 and United Arab Emirates on June 27. All of Ireland's group-stage matches will be played at Bulawayo.
Squad: Andrew Balbirnie (c), Mark Adair, Curtis Campher, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Graham Hume, Josh Little, Andy McBrine, Barry McCarthy, PJ Moor, Paul Stirling, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Ben White, Craig Young.
