The Indian nation was left stunned and heartbroken on Tuesday, April 22, after an unexpected terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, claimed the lives of at least 26 civilians most of whom were tourists visiting the popular destination.

In a mark of respect and solidarity, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided that Match 41 of IPL 2025 between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI), scheduled to be held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad will begin with a one-minute silence.

“Players and umpires to wear black armbands in today’s match. There will be one minute’s silence before the start of the match, and there will be no cheerleaders today, also no fireworks,” - BCCI source to The Tribune India

As part of the tribute:

• Black armbands will be worn by players and officials.
• No fireworks or cheerleader performances will take place during the game.
• The pre-match minute of silence will honor the victims of the heinous act in South Kashmir’s tourist belt.

The cricketing fraternity has also come forward to express their sorrow. Indian cricketer Virat Kohli posted on Instagram:

“Deeply saddened by the heinous attack in Pahalgam on innocent people. Heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. Praying for peace and strength to families of all those who lost their lives and justice to be served for this cruel act.”

MI captain Hardik Pandya also shared his grief writing “Devastated by the news from Pahalgam. My thoughts are with those affected and their families.”
