Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) cruised to a nine-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in an afternoon thriller at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Chasing a target of 174 RCB got the job done in just 17.3 overs thanks to a blistering knock from opener Philip Salt.

Winning the toss and choosing to bowl first proved to be a great call by RCB stand-in skipper Rajat Patidar. His bowlers stuck to the plans and did well to restrict RR to 173/4 despite a strong fifty from Yashasvi Jaiswal his third at this venue and second of the season. RCB’s bowlers laid the foundation early and their openers finished it off in style.

“Very pleased, always nice to contribute in a win. This venue played a bit different, but I’m happy I could make an impact. (On facing Jofra) We’ve had loads of net sessions together. He knows me well and I know him well. The ball was swinging, so I just stuck to hitting in the one area I felt confident. The pitch was slower than usual, so taking advantage of the powerplay was important. Our bowlers were spot on today. RR got a decent score, but we made it work with the bat.”

Sanju Samson | RR Captain:

“Yeah, we felt 170 was a decent score after batting under the sun on a slower pitch. Losing the toss didn’t help. They took the game away in the powerplay. We dropped some catches, they dropped some too, but we need to improve there. Credit to RCB, they were solid. We’ve had good discussions in the dressing room and we’ll come back stronger.”

“It felt amazing. The way the bowlers stuck to their plans, especially in the powerplay, was special. We were looking at 150-170. Honestly, my confidence comes from how good our bowlers are. (On Salt) Watching him from the dugout was pure fun. The way he attacked while Virat rotated strike made it look easy. We just focus on playing positive, smart cricket.”
