Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell lost his sheen as an all-rounder in the previous edition of the IPL. He neither lacked the teeth to fire with the willow nor had the determination to account for key dismissals as he was left clueless throughout the season.
Glenn MaxwellThe fact that he was able to muster only 52 runs in 10 games goes to show that he had an underwhelming campaign. Although he took six wickets with the ball, he leaked too many runs and had an economy of just over 8.
Recently, he unfollowed Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Instagram, which triggered speculations of him parting ways with the franchise. In case, he is released by the team ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, he will be targeted by some teams, given his credentials in the T20 format.
The Ahmedabad-based franchise failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last season. They finished eighth on the table. They will look to shape their identity in the IPL and add a dynamic player like Glenn Maxwell who could give them a significant boost with his all-round abilities. It is no secret that Maxwell will bring aggressive batting value to the table, which can provide the much-needed firepower in the middle order. He might as well help the team post or chase down big totals. His off-spin might come in handy for the team, where he can be a flexible bowling option that can be used in different situations.
History tells us that Chennai Super Kings are known to buy experienced, adaptable players at the auction. Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell would be a great fit for CSK because of his all-around skills. Since MS Dhoni has gone past his prime, signing Maxwell could do the trick as he can play the role of a finisher which lets the team to maintain a high run rate. He would also be useful on the spin-friendly pitch in Chepauk.
Just like Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants are a relatively new team that made their entry into the competition in IPL 2022. The Lucknow-based franchise qualified for the playoffs in the first two seasons before missing out on the top four spot last time. They will look to revamp their squad this time around. LSG will need versatile player who can make an impact in multiple areas and Glenn Maxwell fits this bill quite perfectly. If LSG signs him, then he would join hands with his fellow teammate Marcus Stoinis.
