Glenn McGrath is excited to see Virat Kohli return to the international stage after a much-needed break, as he believes it will bring "a world of good" to the Indian essential. Kohli did not represent India in the recent T20I series against South Africa and is currently in England.
Glenn McGrath is considered the best bowler to ever play the game and even after retiring, the former Australian pacer continues to share data with budding fast bowlers in India. McGrath is the director of MRF Tempo Base and is currently in the country teaching his wards. McGrath opened up about Umran Malik's pace, the nature of Virat Kohli and India's forthcoming tour of England, which includes a check, three ODIs and three T20Is.
McGrath believes Kohli will do very well if he has this break now that the hitter knows his game inside out and what needs to be done to get back on top form.
“Cricket is pretty much a confidence sport, Virat is quite a confidence player too. When he sings he scores run after run and sometimes when things aren't going well it can be a tough place. He has it "He has enough experience, knows himself and his game. This break will do him a lot. I'm curious to see how he comes back, we have the World Cup just around the corner and I think India will need it." experienced players who help to stabilize the ship.
Speaking about Umran Malik, McGrath said, "Yes, the categorical pace of bowling is special. And it's very special. When you can combine that high speed with control and consistency, you will definitely become a truly dangerous bowler. It's almost there, when you reach the top it's important to work even harder. As long as his work ethic is cute and he seems to be improving, who knows where he may go.
“There is still time for him (Umran is playing tests). They need to get out there and do business in first class cricket too. When you bowl at express speed everyone gets excited and fair enough but yeah to be around the team is very special. I haven't spent time with him so I don't know what he's like as a character and how he goes about things.
“Cricket is pretty much a confidence sport, Virat is quite a confidence player too. When he's on the song he's scoring run after run and sometimes when things aren't going well it can be a tough place. He has enough experience, knows himself and knows his game."
"This break will do him great. I'm curious to see how he comes back, we have the World Cup just around the corner and I think India will need the experienced players to stabilize the ship."
Kohli is currently in England for the fifth and final Test, which was postponed last year due to Covid-19 concerns.
