The third edition of the ILT20 is poised to clash with the BBL and potentially the SA20 in 2025. The fixtures for the ILT20, a franchise-based competition in the UAE, were announced on Friday, scheduling the tournament from January 11 to February 9, 2025.

Although the dates for both the BBL and SA20 haven't been confirmed, it is understood that the BBL will run until January 26, while the SA20 is expected to start shortly after the New Year's Test against Pakistan ends in Cape Town on January 7. Additionally, there could be a clash if South Africa travels to Pakistan for an ODI series as part of their preparation for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which is penciled in for mid-February, also in Pakistan.

Further complicating matters for the ILT20 is a potential clash with the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), although the ILT20 offers significantly higher earnings for top players. These overlaps with other leagues have led to a high turnover of players throughout the ILT20, with teams signing players for specific windows, while players shuttle between various competitions.

Last season, the BBL saw many overseas players leave for the finals series when the ILT20 started on January 19. However, a few overseas players were able to participate in most of the regular season before departing for the UAE. This won't be the case next summer for those contracted to the ILT20.

The BBL had hoped to mitigate clashes with overseas leagues by making Australia's Test players available to play after the Sydney Test against India finishes on January 7. However, Australia has a two-Test tour of Sri Lanka scheduled for late January to early February, and it's understood that Test players might only be available for three BBL games, if at all, depending on their need for rest after a rigorous schedule of five Tests against India in seven weeks.
