Test cricket has seen a rejuvenating spark with thrilling wins reshaping the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table. India, currently at the top, face a challenge to hold its position after consecutive losses to New Zealand, who secured their first-ever series win in India, claiming victories in both Bangalore and Pune Tests.
New Zealand’s resilience paid off as they clinched the series with one match remaining, ending India’s nearly 12-year unbeaten record in home Test series—a streak lasting 4,331 days. With this win, New Zealand strengthened their position in the race for the WTC final, now holding a 50% point share and ranked 4th. India maintain the top spot with a win percentage of 62.82%, but the upcoming Mumbai Test will be critical. If New Zealand defeat India once more, Australia, currently at 62.50% and in second place, could surpass them.
In the WTC standings, Sri Lanka hold 3rd with a 55.56% win rate, while South Africa, despite winning against Bangladesh in Mirpur, fell to 5th with 47.62%. England stand 6th at 40.79%. Pakistan’s fortunes turned around at home after recent victories over England, marking their first home Test wins in three and a half years and propelling them to 7th with a 33.33% share. Bangladesh, with a 30.56% share, slipped to 8th.
Bangladesh could still reclaim 7th place by defeating South Africa in the Chattogram Test.
