ICC international umpire Tanvir Ahmed has been attacked in his own area. Today (Tuesday) some people in the area have attacked the Bangladeshi umpire with a stick during a fight over the coronavirus issue.
Soilab Hossain Tutul, member secretary of Bangladesh Umpires and Scorers Association, told Bangladesh news portal
in the evening that Tanvir was admitted to Mitford Hospital after being attacked in his area this afternoon.
What is the reason for this sudden attack on the umpire of Bangladesh, Tutul said in response that the issue of coronavirus was the main reason for the quarrel. At one stage some people attacked him.
Soilab Hossain Tutul said,
“After the umpire Tanvir’s brother returned to his home in Becharam Dewri from outside Dhaka, the local youths prevented him from entering the house. Needless to say, he was prevented from doing so by the fear of coronavirus infection. At one stage of the conversation between the two sides, the boys of the area hit Tanvir and his brother with sticks. Both were injured.”
Tanvir Ahmed umpired his first List A match in Bangladesh in 2005–06, and his first first-class match in 2007–08. He has stood as an on-field umpire in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) since 2012. In November 2018, he was selected in the ICC International Panel of Umpires.
