Rain affected much of the recent India-Bangladesh Test match held at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium, with play limited to just 35 overs on the first day. The second and third days saw no play at all, and despite no rain on the third day, the outfield conditions prevented any game. Due to these delays, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has rated the Green Park outfield as “unsatisfactory,” resulting in the stadium receiving one demerit point.

Green Park Stadium, owned by the Indian government, is maintained by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA). Under ICC regulations, venues are assessed based on four categories: Very Good, Satisfactory, Unsatisfactory, and Unfit. An “Unsatisfactory” rating adds one demerit point to the venue, while an “Unfit” rating brings three. If a venue receives five or more demerit points within five years, it faces a 12-month suspension from hosting international matches.
The India-Bangladesh Test series’ second match began at Kanpur on September 27 but saw only 35 overs completed on the first day before play was halted. Play resumed briefly on the fourth day, and India ultimately claimed victory, winning by 7 wickets in a total of just 173.2 overs played across the match.
