Najmul Hossain Shanto is going to make his debut as the thirteenth (13) Test captain of Bangladesh. Recently started his journey as ODI captain, and also led in the World Cup. However, this batter has become ready to take the captaincy while serving as the stand-in captain.
Shanto is making his Test debut with a two-match series against New Zealand. Before that, the acting captain said in a firm voice that he had the ability to captain, no matter the format.
Shanta said, "A captain is a captain. I personally believe I am capable of leading in all the formats. It's a personal belief. Given the situation the team is in, whoever becomes the captain, if he is given a long tenure then it would be easier for him to make plans. Whoever is named the captain, I believe that if he gets enough opportunities he can achieve something great.”
Having captained two high-voltage matches in the World Cup, Shanto wants to take lessons from his past and apply them to the New Zealand series. He added, “It is difficult to say what I have learned specifically. It was an ODI, it is a Test. How these small things could have been done better in different situations. New Zealand is a very good team. A very challenging and strong team in Tests. It is possible to defeat this team if the right plan is utilized.”
