Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Mumbai Indians by 31 runs in a high scoring affair on Wednesday (27th March). Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram teared apart Mumbai Indians bowlers to set a new record of the league. And then Pat Cummins' brilliant bowling aided SRH taste their maiden win of the season.
Opting to bowl first, Head was dropped on 5 off Hardik Pandya at mid off, as Tim David dropped red basket catch. And then Travis Head disclosed his real face to smash the Mumbai bowlers. He went for 6,6,4,4 against the young protea pace sensation Kwena Maphaka, ripped through Hardik Pandya's second over with hat-trick of boundaries, punished Gerald Coetzee for 23 off the over to make history for SRH as he raced his way to fifty off only 18 balls, which is the fastest by any batter from SRH history.
However Gerald Coetzee took his revenge by picking up the wicket of Head when he was 62 off 24 balls, his tornado innings was orchestrated by 9 fours and 3 monstrous blows.
After the departure of Head, Abhishek Sharma took the onus on his shoulders and hammered Maphaka for 4,6,6 and 4. He also teared apart Piyush Chawla and raced his way to fifty off only 16 balls to become the fastest man to score fifty for SRH as he broke his teammate's record.
Piyush Chawla got him out, but SRH brought two South African monster in the crease to keep the tornado going on. Aiden Markram and protea giant Heinrich Klassen smashed MI bowlers everywhere of the park showing no mercy. Even a couple of quite-overs have gone for 11-12 runs. Klaasen notched up his fifty, while Markram was smashing as well.
Sunrisers Hyderabad broke the record of RCB and posted a humongous 277 runs on the board. Heinrich Klaasen was unbeaten with a swashbuckling 80 from just 34 balls, while Markram made a fantastic 42 from 28 deliveries.
In reply, MI had a brisk start as the opening duo raced to 50 out of nowhere, Cummins brought in Shahbaz Ahmed to remove Ishan Kishan and then Cummins own came to give a massive breakthrough by picking up the wicket of dangerous Rohit Sharma.
But MI didn’t stop chasing, Tilak Varma showed them the way, smashing Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 3 sixes on the trot and smacked a quick-fire 64 off only 34 balls before Pat Cummins brought himself back to remove Tilak and brought SRH back into the game.
After the departure of Tilak, MI lost the plot. Though Tim David and Romario Shepard hit some lusty blows but that wasn’t enough to chase down the mammoth total. MI captain Hardik Pandya's 24 off 20 ball innings was suicidal for Mumbai as this might have made the difference between the two sides.
