In a thrilling conclusion to the Test series, Bangladesh secured a historic 2-0 victory over Pakistan, marking one of their most significant achievements in cricket.
Renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle took to X (formerly Twitter) to praise the momentous occasion, drawing a poignant connection between this victory and Bangladesh's past cricketing triumphs.
"In all fairness, Bangladesh have had quite a few moments to be proud of. None more so than beating India in the 2007 World Cup. How fitting then, that the two kids from that day, Shakib and Mushfiq, now in the middle as veterans, see their team through to their biggest Test series win," Bhogle wrote, acknowledging the contributions of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim, two stalwarts of Bangladesh cricket.
Bangladesh's 2-0 whitewash of Pakistan in the two-match Test series concluded with a six-wicket victory on Tuesday (September 3) at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The series win marks a historic achievement for Bangladesh, underlining their growth as a formidable force in Test cricket.
The foundation for this victory was laid in the first innings, where Litton Das played a crucial knock of 138, supported by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who contributed 78 runs and took a five-wicket haul to restrict Pakistan to 274 runs. Despite a challenging start in their first innings, where they were reduced to 26/6, Bangladesh made a remarkable comeback, thanks to a 165-run partnership between Litton and Mehidy, bringing them within 12 runs of Pakistan's total.
In the second innings, the Bangladeshi pace duo of Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana decimated the Pakistani batting lineup, bowling them out for a mere 172 runs. Bangladesh's chase was steady, with contributions from Zakir Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and the experienced pair of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim, who guided their team to victory.
Bhogle's recognition of this achievement underscores the significance of the win for Bangladesh, as they continue to make their mark in the world of Test cricket.
