Young Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana is about to start a new part of his cricket journey. He is going to play in a foreign franchise league for the first time, the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Everyone is excited for him, but Nahid stays grounded and is focused on learning instead of enjoying the early praise.
Just before boarding his flight to Pakistan, the promising pacer shared his mindset with the media, emphasizing humility and growth over recognition.
"It feels really good. This is my first time playing in a foreign franchise league. It’s a completely new experience for me. I will try to learn as much as possible and focus on improving match by match," said Nahid.
Even though big names like Mohammad Rizwan have given him great praise, Nahid is determined not to get comfortable. His simple theory is that praise makes people happy, and happiness gets in the way of learning.
"I try to avoid reading too many compliments. Praise can make you satisfied too quickly, and I want to keep pushing myself," Nahid explained.
While many are eager to see how he competes with fellow fast bowlers like Alzarri Joseph at Peshawar Zalmi, Nahid says his competition isn’t with anyone else — it’s with himself.
He also revealed his admiration for Babar Azam, although, as a bowler, Nahid hopes to learn from Pakistan’s legendary fast bowlers during his time in the PSL. "I like everyone to some extent, but Babar Azam is someone I admire a lot. Though he's a batter, I aim to learn new things from Pakistan’s legendary bowlers. I don't compete with others; I compete with myself," he said.
