Man of the match | Mohammed Siraj (India) |
An absurd day of test cricket came to an end as the first day of the test match between South Africa and India saw a total 23 wickets fallen. Mohammad Siraj's onburst bundled South Africa for their lowest total after their readmission to international Cricket. While India too had a miraculous collapse as they were on 153 for 4 and then lost 6 more wickets for 0 runs. Coming out to bat South Africa now lost 3 wickets and are on 62-3.
Earlier, South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first. But the decision had came as nightmare for them. Mohammad Siraj absolutely teared apart the Proteas batting lineup with his fierce bowling. He had 6 fer and was aided by Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar as both of them shared 2 wickets each. South Africa were bundled for a measly 55 runs and this was their lowest ever total after 1992.
Coming out to bat, India were right on the top. Rohit Sharma scored a quick-fire 39 off 50 balls. Shubman Gill made 36 from 54 deliveries and then Kohli came to score a gorgeous knock of 46 after the fall of top four, India were 153-4 and then went for losing 6 straight wickets in between just 11 deliveries without a single run have been scored. Rabada, Nandre Burger and Lungi Ngidi all shared 3 wickets each while one was run out.
In reply, South Africa were 98 runs behind and this was massive for this kind of pitch. The opening stand gave them 37 runs before Mukesh Kumar got Dean Elgar out for 12.
Mukesh again got another nick and this time he had Tony De Zorzi. Bumrah's relentless tight bowling gifted him with Tristan Stubbs' wicket and South Africa were 45-3. However Aiden Markram stood tall and now batting on 36* off 51 balls, while Bedingham is on 7* off 6. This two will be key for South Africa as if they can manage to have a partnership of 100 runs then they'll have the upper hand in this low scoring game.
