After an enthralling Test series that ended in a 1-1 draw, West Indies and Bangladesh are set to lock horns in the ODI format. The Tests saw thrilling action, with the Caribbean side clinching the first match and Bangladesh staging a remarkable comeback to level the series. The stage is now set for the ODI series, with both teams eager to make their mark, especially in the ICC rankings where Bangladesh holds the 9th spot, just ahead of 10th-ranked West Indies.
West Indies skipper Shai Hope expressed optimism about his team’s readiness and focus on playing cohesive cricket. At a pre-match press conference, he stated: “We’ve played a lot of cricket in the past months, mostly as individuals. Now, we need to perform well as a team. The players are ready and eager to give their best on the field.”
Hope also emphasized the importance of consistency and improving their rankings: “Every match is important for us. We want to perform better and climb the rankings. Playing good cricket as a team is our priority. Bangladesh is ranked higher than us, and this presents a great opportunity to showcase our improvement.”
The West Indies captain praised the team’s younger players for adapting quickly and expressed confidence in their potential. “They haven’t had much time, but they’ve adjusted well. We’ve welcomed them with open arms. It’s an exciting opportunity for them to learn and grow with experienced teammates and coaching staff.”
Hope assessed his team’s progress in 2024, noting their improvements in various aspects: “We’ve seen progress, especially in mentality. Adapting to tight schedules isn’t easy, but the players have embraced the challenge. Looking ahead to 2025, we aim to win more matches and series. Continued improvement and support from everyone are key.”
He also highlighted the honor and passion of playing for the West Indies: “Everyone dreams of playing for the West Indies. We grew up watching legends and aspiring to be like them. The desire to improve and represent this great team drives us forward.”
With the first ODI scheduled at St. Kitts, Hope acknowledged the support of local fans: “The fans here are incredible. It’s been a while since we last played here. I’ve played in CPL matches at this venue, and the excitement is always great. Hopefully, the fans will come out and support us.”
Regarding his own form, Hope took a pragmatic approach: “(Laughs) I’m not a believer in form. It’s about preparation and doing the job. Success follows good preparation, and that’s what I focus on.”
The first ODI between West Indies and Bangladesh is scheduled for December 8, starting at 7:30 PM Bangladesh time.
