Fakhar Zaman played a marathon knock of 180 unbeaten to lead Pakistan to a seven-wicket victory in game two of the series PAK vs NZ ODI, setting several records in the process.
During the second ODI between Pakistan and New Zealand, opening batsman Fakhar Zaman not only led the green shirts to a seven-wicket win, but also set five unique records.
During the second ODI, Zaman hit a third straight century, hitting an unbeaten 180 of 144 balls for his tenth ODI hundred.
The left-hander shattered 17 limits and six highs during his record-breaking knock as Men in Green successfully chased the massive 337-run target - Pakistan's second-highest chase in ODIs - with 10 balls left.
The 33-year-old set a host of individual records in that match as he became the fastest batter not just in the country but in Asia to complete 3000 ODI runs and only the fourth Pakistani to complete three consecutive centuries in the format reached.
Fakhar needed just 67 innings to accumulate 3,000 runs as he bested his team skipper Babar Azam, who needed 68 innings to reach the landmark.
The win gave Pakistan a 2-0 lead in the five-game series, with the last three games in Karachi on May 3, 5 and 7.
"It was my lucky day to score again against New Zealand because I had chances," said Zaman.
"I try to take my time in the beginning and then with five players in a circle it becomes easier to score goals."
Visiting skipper Latham described Zaman as "outstanding".
"We were very happy at half-time," said Latham. “Fakhar played an excellent shot. They could build partnerships and that was a big tick in the batting department.”
Zaman became the fastest 3,000-runs Asian batsman in ODI history after completing the feat in 67 innings. The record was previously held by Babar Azam, who took 68 innings.
