In a recent development, Pakistan’s opening batter Fakhar Zaman has formally responded to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after they issued him a show-cause notice. This came following his public comments in support of Babar Azam, who was controversially dropped from the squad for the second and third Test matches against England.

Zaman had openly criticized the decision, praising Babar as one of Pakistan's finest players and comparing his situation to that of Indian cricket star Virat Kohli, who was supported by the BCCI despite a prolonged period of poor form. Fakhar highlighted Kohli's struggles between 2020 and 2023, stating that India kept faith in their star player during his slump.

On October 13, Fakhar took to the social media platform X, writing, “It’s concerning to hear suggestions about dropping Babar Azam. India didn’t bench Virat Kohli during his rough stretch between 2020 and 2023, when he averaged 19.33, 28.21, and 26.50, respectively.”

While his remarks sparked widespread discussion, the PCB was not pleased and issued a show-cause notice demanding an explanation from the 34-year-old batter.

In response to the notice, Fakhar Zaman stood by his earlier comments, expressing that his post was meant to show support for Babar Azam, whom he considered a top cricketer. Fakhar emphasized that his intent was never to criticize the PCB, but rather to support a teammate and fellow compatriot during a challenging time.

He reiterated his respect for the PCB and reassured the board that the players continue to honor and respect its authority. In his official statement, Fakhar said, “Babar Azam is one of the world’s best, and that’s why I felt compelled to express my opinion. As a fellow cricketer, I believe Babar deserved the chance to overcome his rough patch, as supported by his central contract with the PCB. The PCB is our institution, and we will continue to honor it.”
