England thumped Australia by 49 runs to square the series 2-2 on Monday (31st July) at KIA Oval.
Australia were in a good position when they started the day with 135-0. David Warner and Usman Khawaja were going decently. But then Chris Woakes ran riot through the Aussie top order and picked up both of the set openers. Australia lost their openers in quick succession and were on a spot to bother on. But Marnus Labuschagne started solidly and showed intent in his innings but Mark Wood got rid of him with a peach Australia were crumbling on 169-3.
Steve Smith and Travis Head then took the charge. The duo counterattacked the English bowlers with their own medicine and added a brilliant 95 run stand. In between their partnership rain irrupted but after the break Australia lost Head as he nicked off to Moeen and went back to the pavilion scoring only 43. Steve Smith on the other hand, notchhed up his 50 and then smacked a fine boundary off Woakes, in the very next ball he too touched the ball and then gone. Australia again lost two settled batters and were fell to the sea.
Mitchell Marsh couldn’t do anything and threw his wicket away, Mitchell Starc did the same and Edgsbaston herioc didn't repeat for Cummins and Australia were marginalized for 294-8. Todd Murphy and Alex Carey then made a 35 run stand on 9th wicket before the former one fell to Stuart Broad. And then Broad again got the last batter Carey and England won the match by 49 runs and drew the Ashes by 2-2.
