Delhi Capitals have announced Hemang Badani as their new head coach for next two years. Badani has replaced former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who has moved to Punjab Kings after serving Delhi Capitals for 6 years.
On Thursday, Delhi Capitals posted this on their official 'X' account.
Ricky Ponting was Delhi Capitals' head coach for seven years, with taking the franchise to the finals of the IPL. Delhi Capitals have chosen to pick an Indian coach as they wanted a pre training season for the players, which Ponting couldn’t agree with.
Badani played four Tests and 40 ODIs between 2000 and 2004 for India and had previously served as head coach of the Chepauk Super Gillies in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), helping them win three titles.
Badani, however, is set for his biggest role as the head coach of Delhi Capitals.
“It’s my absolute honour to be joining Delhi Capitals, and I’m deeply grateful to our owners for trusting me with the job. With the mega auction around the corner, my job, in collaboration with the rest of our coaching staff, is cut out. I can’t wait to get started,” Badani said in a release shared by the Capitals on Thursday.
Delhi have also roped in Venugopal Rao as the Director of Cricket (IPL).
