Chamari Athapaththu earns a three-year WBBL deal with Sydney Thunder

That purple patch, which saw her finish as the league's second highest run-scorer with 511 at a staggering average of 42.58 with a solid strike rate of 129.69 and five half-centuries, while also capturing nine wickets to her name.

Sydney Thunder have locked in Sri Lankan superstar batter Chamari Athapaththu for a three-year deal in WBBL.

Chamari had a terrific WBBL season last year, crowning the Player of The Tournament of WBBL|09. That purple patch, which saw her finish as the league's second highest run-scorer with 511 at a staggering average of 42.58 with a solid strike rate of 129.69 and five half-centuries, while also capturing nine wickets to her name. The credentials were enough to get a three-year deal from the Sydney Thunder.
"Committing to Sydney Thunder for the next three seasons was an easy decision because I believe in the vision of this club, and I want to be part of its future success," Athapaththu said.
"My teammates are not just colleagues; they are friends who push each other to be better every day, (which) is important to me.
"It's been an incredible journey so far, and I'm so excited for what's ahead."
Chamari will continue to deliver Thunder at the top of the order with Aussie youngster Phoebe Litchfield. Athapaththu has been signed under the league's new multi-year, pre-draft contract provision for overseas players.
