Steve Buckner has shown that with umpiring on the cricket field an umpire can be a legend. He had the ability to make perfect decisions.
That is why he had been on the elite panel of ICC umpires for a long time. Although he is now retired. That Steve Buckner admitted, he made a mistake too. He even admitted that he had mistakenly given out
twice.
Steve Buckner was a popular name in the world of cricket umpiring. This umpire from the ICC elite panel was quite popular among the spectators at the beginning of this century. Eleven years after retiring from umpiring, Buckner admitted two terrible ‘mistakes’ and expressed his remorse.
Steve Buckner admitted on a radio podcast that he had twice mistakenly decided to give out Sachin.
“Tendulkar was given out on two different occasions when those were mistakes. I do not think any umpire would want to do a wrong thing. It lives with him and his future could be jeopardised,”
Bucknor said on Mason and Guests radio programme.
“
To err is human. Once in Australia, I gave him out leg before wicket and the ball was going over the top. Another time, in India it was caught behind. The ball deviated after passing the bat but there was no touch. But the match was at Eden Gardens and when you are at the Eden and India is batting, you hear nothing.
“Because 100,000 spectators are making noise. Those were the mistakes and I was unhappy. I am saying a human is going to make mistakes and accepting mistakes are part of life,”
he added.
According to Indian media, Buckner has made headlines for making mistakes many times in his umpiring career. India have suffered at least 15-16 times. The most controversial match of his career was the Gabba Test in the 2003 India-Australia series.
