England have crashed New Zealand by 8 wickets to have an emphatic victory at Hagley Oval in the first Test. Brydon Carse' ten wicket-haul in the match reduced Kiwis for only 254, which set a paltry 103 run target. And England have chased this down inside only 12.4 overs.
New Zealand started the day on a positive note, scoring runs at 5 runs per over. Glenn Phillips and Nathan Smith both were positive and they were scoring runs quickly before Brydon Carse removed both of them. But Daryl Mitchell was playing fantastically as he brought up a fighting fifty.
Tim Southee smashed two sixes and got out to Gus Atkinson immediately. Mitchell then stitched an inspiring 45-run with William ORourke at 9th wicket and helped Kiwis to stretch their lead over 100.
Brydon Carse was the hero behind this slender lead, as he had a sensational six-fer.
In reply, Zak Crawley got out cheaply to Matt Henry. But Ben Duckett and newly appointed No. 3 batter Jacob Bethell started to smashing boundaries. It was raining of fours and sixes. Duckett played a quick cameo of 27.
Jacob Bethell brought up his maiden fifty as he made an unbeaten 50* off just 37 balls, while played a little cameo of 23* off 15 balls and their side to get an emphatic victory at Hagley Oval to go 1-0 ahead in the Test series.
