Ahead of the upcoming season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is ramping up preparations, aiming to deliver a season rooted in integrity and transparency. Guided by insights from interim government chief advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, BCB has committed to hosting a BPL season with strict anti-corruption oversight, ensuring fair competition at every level.
This commitment follows a recent report in The Telegraph, which raised concerns over 30 allegations of corruption in the past two BPL seasons. In response, BCB director and renowned coach Nazmul Abedeen Fahim has assured that BCB’s anti-corruption unit will be vigilant and active throughout this season. Measures are being put in place to educate players, coaches, and managers on anti-corruption protocols to ensure a clean and fair league.
Addressing the media on BPL’s anti-corruption strategy, Fahim emphasized, “These (corruption allegations) have caught our attention. To ensure a genuinely competitive game, it’s crucial to maintain discipline. Our anti-corruption team will be active this season, conducting necessary programs to educate players and management. Our goal is to prevent any misconduct. If any violations occur, we are prepared to take immediate action. BPL authorities are committed to strict oversight and discipline in the league.”
Fahim reassured fans and stakeholders that BPL 2025 would take a firm stance against any potential misconduct, stating, “We haven’t received such allegations directly before; if we had, the previous board would have addressed them. But I can assure you that this season, we’ll take a strong stance. We’re implementing various programs to ensure everyone is aware of the consequences of any violations. Most players are well-disciplined and aware of these issues. While a few isolated cases may arise, our vigilance will be thorough.”
The next season of the BPL, scheduled from December 30 to February 7, will feature seven teams, marking a new era for the league with heightened accountability and ethical standards.
