England cricket captain Ben Stokes revealed that his home was burgled on October 17 while he was away on a tour in Pakistan. His wife and two young children were inside the house during the burglary, but fortunately, they were not physically harmed. However, Stokes emphasized the emotional and mental toll the incident took on his family, saying it could have been much worse.
In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), Stokes detailed the burglary at his house in Castle Eden, northeast England, by a group of masked individuals. The robbers made off with valuable items, including jewellery, expensive bags, and personal possessions with significant sentimental value. Among the stolen items was Stokes' Order of the British Empire (OBE) medal, awarded in recognition of his services to cricket.
Stokes appealed to the public for help in identifying the burglars and shared images of the stolen possessions. "This is an appeal for any help in finding these people who carried out this act. By far the worst thing about this crime is that it was carried out whilst my wife and two young children were in the house," he wrote.
Although Stokes has lost cherished possessions, his main concern is to catch those responsible for the burglary. He urged anyone with information to contact Durham Constabulary, providing the crime reference CRI00575927.
In closing, Stokes thanked the police for their exceptional support both during his absence and in the ongoing investigation. "Their support for my family has been outstanding," he said, expressing his gratitude for their hard work in finding the culprits.
