Born into a renowned cricketing family, Ben Curran had several paths laid out for him. His father, Kevin Malcolm Curran, represented Zimbabwe at the international level, while his brothers, Sam and Tom Curran, chose to play for England. Even his grandfather, Kevin Patrick Curran, was a cricketer.
Yet, when it came time to choose his colors, Ben stayed true to his roots — donning the Zimbabwe jersey instead of following his brothers’ path.
Currently in Bangladesh for a two-Test series, Ben Curran shared his journey of returning to Zimbabwean cricket during a press conference ahead of the second Test in Chattogram.
Reflecting on his decision, Curran said, "Yeah, obviously, I grew up in Zimbabwe. And then, circumstances took me to England, played a few years there, and then obviously, returned back to play for Zimbabwe, which is a great honor and a privilege. I'm really enjoying my cricket at the moment, and I can't wait for what's to come."
Curran spoke about his passion to help Zimbabwe climb higher in world cricket, "I think ultimately winning games for Zimbabwe is a dream come true. We did that the other day and it was a great feeling. Some guys have never been a part of a win. And the older guys are not too many. So it's one of those where as long as we can keep winning games and keep taking Zimbabwe cricket forward, I think we're happy."
Ben Curran’s debut Test win came just recently during the first match of the series in Sylhet — a moment he treasures deeply, "Delighted to get the win. My first test win to be involved in. So yeah, just all the hard work we've been putting in leading to the series, it's just It's a great feeling, but obviously, the series is not done. There's a big game to come in the next few days."
As a newcomer to international cricket, Curran emphasized how much he values the mentorship from senior players like Sean Williams and Craig Ervine, "I'm relatively new in international cricket. So for me to try and learn as much as I can from the likes of Sean and Craig is vital to my development and how I'm going to progress relatively quickly on an international stage. So I'd be silly if I didn't try and tap into their experience."
