The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is owed over half a crore taka by the franchises participating in the current cycle of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Despite repeated deadlines and extensions, the franchises have failed to clear their dues, including the mandatory participation fees. Frustrated by the lack of compliance, the BCB has now decided to pursue legal measures to recover the outstanding amounts.
Speaking at a press conference during the unveiling of the BPL mascot and logo at a luxury hotel in Dhaka, BCB president Faruque Ahmed revealed the situation. "We have sent legal notices to the franchise owners, demanding payment of the outstanding amounts. Only a small portion of what we are owed has been received so far. However, as per the rules, they are obligated to pay the dues," Faruque Ahmed stated firmly.
This issue of unpaid dues is not new in the history of the BPL. Similar allegations arose during previous seasons, causing friction between the board and franchise owners. However, the BCB appears to be taking a stricter stance this time, aiming to resolve the issue before the upcoming edition of the league. "We are prepared to take any measures necessary to ensure compliance," added the BCB president.
With the next season of BPL on the horizon, this move underscores the BCB’s commitment to streamlining operations and maintaining financial accountability in the league. Franchises now face increasing pressure to settle their debts or risk further action from the cricket board.
