What was meant to be a calm holiday on Friday turned into a very exciting day in Bangladesh cricket.  Top cricketers, including former national captain Tamim Iqbal, met at the offices of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to talk about how frustrated they were with recent decisions about punishments, especially the ongoing confusion surrounding Towhid Hridoy's ban.

Hridoy is the captain of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) team Mohammedan Sporting Club in the absence of Tamim Iqbal. He has been caught in a punishment maze that has changed directions several times.  After a heated fight with top umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid Saikat, Hridoy was initially banned for two matches. However, his ban was later shortened to one match, which let him play two games in a row.

In a strange turn of events, the BCB then reinstated the second match ban but put it off until next season. This means that Hridoy can now play in Mohammedan's game against Gazi Group on April 26 and will serve the one-match suspension during the first game of the next DPL season.

Speaking to the media for the first time since recovering from a heart attack, Tamim Iqbal did not hold back his criticism. “He already played two games. The suspension was served, whether we agreed or not. Then suddenly we hear he’s banned again? That’s ridiculous. What kind of rule is that?”

Tamim's public comments show that a lot of players are unhappy with the board's punishments because they are uneven and not well-explained.

Earlier in the day, Tamim and some other Mohammedan players had a private chat with BCB president Faruque Ahmed.  Reporters had to wait outside the BCB building for hours before Tamim finally spoke to the media in the afternoon.
