The buzz surrounding Mohammad Salahuddin’s possible appointment as assistant coach for the Bangladesh national cricket team has intensified, yet the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chairman Faruque Ahmed remains cautious on confirming this role. While recent talks have indicated the Board's interest in local talents for supporting roles, the final decision remains open.
According to Faruque Ahmed, the BCB is committed to prioritizing local expertise across coaching roles, including fielding, batting, bowling, and assistant coaching positions. “We have prioritized local coaches and are seriously considering this approach. Discussions have taken place in the recent board meeting,” he stated, adding that the Board’s present leadership is committed to a stable, thought-out approach in decision-making.
Faruque emphasized the Board’s dedication to making well-evaluated decisions rather than speculation: “I carefully assess the options, taking information from relevant sources to ensure decisions are sound and beneficial. This approach reflects the adjustments we aim to implement.”
In addressing previous under-appreciation of local coaching talent, Faruque mentioned that, under his leadership, attention is being paid to this area. “Why it wasn’t prioritized before, I cannot say, but it is my focus now,” he responded.
While he refrained from confirming specific names, the chairman acknowledged that changes in coaching roles—such as the recent decision to replace head coach Hathurusingha—were based on a detailed review of the coaching team’s performance.
