One of Bangladesh's best players, Mahmudullah Riyad, is leaving the game after announcing his retirement from One Day Internationals (ODIs).  While Mahmudullah had already stopped playing in Tests and T20s, his 18-year international career is now finally over.  The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) thanked him very much for his work and acknowledged how he had helped the national team.

In an official statement, BCB acknowledged Mahmudullah’s stellar career, stating, "The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) extends its heartfelt appreciation to Md Mahmudullah for his exceptional contributions to the Bangladesh team. The seasoned campaigner announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday, bringing an illustrious 18-year career to a close."

The numbers that Mahmudullah left behind say a lot about his impact.  In 430 international games, he scored 11,047 runs and took 166 wickets in all types of cricket.  He is also Bangladesh's fourth-highest run scorer in ODIs and second-highest scorer in T20Is. He holds the record for the most hundreds scored by a Bangladeshi player in an ICC game, with four.  He led Bangladesh in six Test matches and 43 T20 internationals as captain.

Praising Mahmudullah’s contributions, BCB president Faruque Ahmed said, “This is a sombre moment for everyone associated with Bangladesh cricket as Mahmudullah has been a pillar of strength for the national team for close to two decades. His consistency and ability to thrive under pressure have made him an invaluable asset. His dedication and performances have set a benchmark for future generations, and his legacy will remain a source of inspiration.

Highlighting Mahmudullah’s ability to perform in crucial moments, the BCB President further stated, " “Mahmudullah earned a reputation as one of Bangladesh’s most dependable performers in crucial moments. Whether with the bat or ball, he delivered when it mattered most. His calm demeanor in challenging circumstances and his leadership on the field cemented his status as one of the most respected figures in the history of Bangladesh cricket."

Wishing Mahmudullah success in his post-retirement journey, he concluded, "On behalf of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, we celebrate Mahmudullah’s remarkable career and express our deepest gratitude for his invaluable service to the team and the sport. We wish him success in all his future endeavors and are confident that his wealth of experience will continue to enrich cricket in Bangladesh."
