Bangladesh fined for slow over-rate against England

Bangladesh made a great start in the ODI World Cup beating Afghanistan in the first match. However, they succumbed to a huge defeat of 137 runs to England in the second match. Not only this loss but also they got the penalty for slow over-rate.
Bangladesh and England faced each other in the 7th edition of the ICC ODI World Cup in Dharamsala on Tuesday (October 10). Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and chose to field first. However, England dominated from the beginning.
Bangladesh had to bowl very calculatedly to stop the quick scoring rate of England. Especially in the last 10 overs. But they took more time than the scheduled time to complete 50 overs. That is why the Tigers have been fined.
In a press release, ICC said that Bangladeshi cricketers have been fined 5 percent of their respective match fees. Bangladesh completed 49 overs within the stipulated time, the deficit was 1 over. A fine of 5 percent of the match fee per over is imposed as per the prescribed rules.
Javagal Srinath of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Shakib Al Hasan’s side was ruled to be 1 over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.
In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 5 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.
Shakib Al Hasan pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.
On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Paul Wilson, third umpire Adrian Holdstock and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena leveled the charge.
