Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Administrative Committee Head Zaka Ashraf leaked Babar Azam's personal WhatsApp messages on LIVE television late on Sunday.
Pakistan failed to perform to its reputation in the Asia Cup and its participation in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 was also quite disappointing.
To make matters worse, a WhatsApp chat of captain Babar Azam was leaked on national television by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Zaka Ashraf, adding fuel to the fire,
Rashid Latif, the former wicketkeeper of the Pakistan cricket team, claimed on Saturday that Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of the management committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), allegedly neglected Babar Azam's attempts to communicate with him through calls and text messages.
In an interview with a local news channel, Ashraf denied these allegations and said the Pakistan captain never contacted him directly. “He [Latif] says I won’t answer his [Babar’s] call,” Ashraf clarified. “He never called me. The Chief Operating Officer or the Director of International Cricket is expected to speak to the captain of the team.”
Although Ashraf denied any contact with Babar, he went to great lengths to substantiate his claim by sharing Babar Azam's personal WhatsApp message to the interviewer. The WhatsApp exchange, which was broadcast on a live TV program, was between Babar and PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer.
What was Babar's message?
Naseer reportedly said, "Babar, news has also been doing rounds on TV and social media that you have called the chairman and he is not answering. 'Have you called him lately?'" in this disclosed conversation. The host said Babar's response was, "Salam Salman Bhai, I did not call the Lord."
During the show, Azhar Ali, a former Pakistan cricketer, questioned whether Babar Azam's approval was taken from the PCB chief or the show before releasing his private message live on air.
The host of the aforementioned show, Waseem Badami, posted a video on social media apologizing for his mistake and revealing the WhatsApp exchange with Babar Azam.
Badami clarified that they were initially hesitant to make the conversation public but eventually decided to broadcast it as the PCB chief had given them permission to do so. However, Badami stressed that the channel made a mistake in broadcasting the chat and sincerely apologized for the mistake.
