Athapaththu-Harshitha shine as Sri Lanka lifts Women's Asia Cup for the first time
In reply of India's 165, Lankan captain Chamari Athapathtu once again showed her class to give Sri Lanka flying start and the departure of the skipper saw Harshitha Samarawickrama taking the onus on his shoulders to win the Women's Asia Cup for the very first time.

Sri Lanka Women thrashed India Women by 8 wickets to win the Women's Asia Cup 2024 on Sunday (28th July) at Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium, Dambulla. In reply of India's 165, Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu once again showed her class to give Sri Lanka flying start and the departure of the skipper saw Harshitha Samarawickrama taking the onus on his shoulders to win the Women's Asia Cup for the very first time.
After choosing to bat first, Shafali Verma fell cheaply but other opener Smriti Mandhana scored another fifty as she made a fabulous 60 off 47 deliveries. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and number three batter Uma Chetry feel cheaply but Rodrigues gave an excellent floating to the innings as she raced way to 29 off only 16 balls.
At the tad backend of the innings, Wicket-keeper batter Richa Gosh hammered 4 boundaries and a six to score a quick-fire 30 off 14 deliveries to help her side post 165 on the board.
In reply, Vishmi Gunaratne fell to run-out but Chamari Athapaththu once again had her everything out to save her team. She got partner in Harshitha Samarawickrama and both the batters added 87 runs to the belt in third wicket partnership to steer the ship. Athapaththu fell to Deepti Sharma as Deepti knocked her over after a blistering 61 off 43 deliveries.
After the departure of Chamari, Harshitha took all the onus on her shoulders to bash the Indian team. She bludgeoned her way to a magnificent 69* off 51 deliveries and Kavisha Dilhari gave the much-needed impetus with her bat swings to blast 30* off 16 and helped Sri Lanka lift the Women's Asia Cup for the very first time.
