West Indies thumped England in the first T20I by 4 wickets on Wednesday (13th December) to take an unassailable lead of 1-0 in the series. Andre Russell's all round brilliance decimated the English lineup. Russell first picked up 3 wickets giving away only 19 runs with the ball and then he made a swashbuckling 29* off just 14 deliveries to take West Indies home.
West Indies won the toss earlier and chose to bowl first. Coming out to bowl, they seemed to fall into a deep sea as the English opening stand was worth of 77 runs off only 6.1 overs before Russell's arrival. Russell immediately provided breakthrough and sent Philip Salt for packing after his blitzkrieg 40 off 20 balls.
Akeal Hossain got the skipper Jos Buttler for his scratchy 39 off 31 deliveries. Alzarri Joseph, Romario Shepard then rat riot through the middle order. At the backend of the innings, Liam Livingstone's 27 from 19 balls helped England post 171 on the board after 20 overs.
Russell was the pick of the bowlers for West Indies as he picked up 3 wickets for 19. Alzarri Joseph too had a day out as he scalped 3. Romario Shepard too was among the wickets with his 2 scalps.
In reply, West Indies started off to a flier. With their opening pair giving them firing start. Brandon King however was out on 22, Kyle Mayers made 35 and couldn't prolong his innings as Adil Rashid got him out. West Indies had a collapse in the middle as they were succumbing on 123-6. England were fancied for thei chances but West Indies batted deep to outbat the England's lions.
Rovman Powell's powering 31 off only 15 deliveries and Andre Russell's monstrous 29 from just 14 deliveries helped West Indies chase down the total with 4 wickets in hands and 11 balls to spare. Andre Russell was named player of the match for his outstanding all round performance.
