Royal Challengers Bangaluru (RCB) have crashed Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 60 runs on Friday (10th May) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium. Virat Kohli's swashbuckling 92, Rajat Patidar's brilliant fifty before RCB bowlers stand together to hand them a thumping 60 run victory over PBKS.
Earlier, being asked to bat first, PBKS had a solid way to start their innings as they removed RCB's captain Faf du Plessis and then had English danger man Will Jacks cheaply. But Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar tried to salvage the situation and started to grow up a partnership.
Rajat Patidar played the accelerator role and smashed PBKS bowlers at bay to give much needed momentum to RCB. Patidar scored a brilliant 55 off just 23 balls at a strike rate of 239.13 before falling to PBKS' stand-in captain Sam Curran. Kohli was paddling through his way, hitting sixes at ease and made a swashbuckling 92 infront of a packed crowd.
Kohli took just 47 balls to reach 92, he missed his well deserved hundred only for 8 runs. After the departure of Kohli, Green took the onus on his shoulders as he blazed a glorious 46 off 27 balls striking at 170.37, while Karthik showed his prowess as well, smacking 18 off 7 to post a mountainous 241 on the board.
In reply, PBKS started losing their gun opener Prabhsimran earlier on in the big chase. Bairstow started off to a flier but couldn’t get going for a long time as he fell to Lockie Ferguson on 27, Riley Rossow played a fantastic knock of 61 off 27 before falling to Karn Sharma.
After the departure of Riley, PBKS kept losing wickets at regular intervals as no one stood up in the big night to steer them home. Indian pace ace Mohammad Siraj was the standout bowler as he claimed 3 wickets to his name, while Lockie Ferguson, Karn Sharma and Swapnil Singh chipped in away with two wickets each.
