Alex Hales talks about his first-ever super-over batting experience
Galle started very well after being sent to bat first as English batter Hales batted aggressively in the powerplay. However, when the spinners came for Dambulla, they turned around the match and restricted Galle for just 148 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Galle Marvels opener Alex Hales talks about his first-ever super-over batting experience in his career after a great super-over win against Dambulla Sixers in the Lanka Premier League on Sunday (July 14).
Galle started very well after being sent to bat first as English batter Hales batted aggressively in the powerplay. However, when the spinners came for Dambulla, they turned around the match and restricted Galle for just 148 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Hales was the best batter for Galle with 38 runs from 26 balls with 5 fours and a six.
However, Dambulla were in good position in the chase but Maheesh Theekshana changed the game for Galle in the last over as he defended 8 runs and the game went to the super-over where Theekshana bowled again and conceded just 6 runs. Hales came down to bat for Galle with Sahan Arachchige and chased down the 7-run target easily as Hales hit a four and a six.
“It's something different for me. I don't think I've ever batted in a super-over before. Obviously, games don't often go there and you often give the super over to the sort of death hitters, the guys who are used to batting at the end. So it was a new role for me, but luckily I got one away out the middle early and we were only chasing seven runs. I think if we were chasing 15, it would have been a bit of a different story. But luckily we bowled really well in our super over and, yeah, I enjoyed it,” Hales said.
Hales also talks about his LPL experience as he’s playing the tournament for the first time. “I'm pleased to have found some form in my first time in a new competition. I've really enjoyed it. We've got a great bunch of guys and it's good to come to a new country and learn some new skills and have to adapt to different conditions. Yeah, my experience so far in Sri Lanka has been very memorable. We performed well as a team with some really close games. So, so far so good,” Haled added.
Hales has been in good form in the tournament as he’s the third highest run-scorer till now with 281 runs in 7 matches with an average of 46.83 and a strike-rate of 139.80.
