Pakistan's legendary umpire Aleem Dar has stepped down from the elite International Cricket Council (ICC) panel after nearly 19 years.

Aleem Dar's long and eventful career as a referee on the ICC's elite panel has come to an end. The 54-year-old has retired after officiating in a record 435 men's Tests, ODIs and T20Is, including four World Cup Finals. However, that does not mean that his career in international cricket is over. Dar can still edit games played back home in Pakistan whenever the PCB chooses him to do so. He can also tour if he finds a place on the International Panel of Umpires - one level below the elite - when it is newly formed.

"I have had the pleasure and honor of refereeing around the world and what I have achieved is something I never dreamed of when I first started this profession," Dar said in a statement released by the ICC on Thursday became.

The addition of Holdstock and Raza brings the number of umpires to the panel from 11 to 12. The additions were overseen by the ICC Elite umpire Selection Panel, led by ICC General Manager – Cricket, Wasim Khan. Holdstock has participated in five tests, 42 ODIs and 48 T20Is. Raza has stood in seven Tests, 41 ODIs and 48 T20Is.

Dar has had a long and celebrated career as an international referee. He made his international debut in 2000 and quickly rose through the ranks, his informed decisions in games earning him recognition from players and fans alike.

Dar was appointed to the ICC International Panel of Umpires in 2002 and officiated at the 2003 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in South Africa. Dar continued his rise when he was appointed to the Elite Panel of ICC Arbitrators in 2004. He was the first Pakistani appointed to the elite body.

Dar has also competed in some major international matches, officiating in the finals of the 2006 ICC Men's Champions Trophy, the 2007 and 2011 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Finals and the 2010 and 2012 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Finals.

Dar was voted ICC Referee of the Year three years in a row between 2009 and 2011.

ICC CEO Geoff Allardice praised Dar's contributions, saying: “Aleem's contribution to international cricket and the ICC has been truly remarkable. His consistent excellence over such a long period of time earned him enormous respect from everyone involved in international cricket. I wish Aleem all the best for the future and I'm sure his commitment to football will continue for many years to come."

Dar, reflecting on his time as an international umpire, added: "It's been a long journey but I've enjoyed every bit of it. I have had the pleasure and honor of refereeing around the world and what I have achieved is something I never dreamed of when I started the profession.

"While I am still interested in continuing as an international referee, I felt that now is the right time to step down from the elite panel after a 19-year journey and give someone from the international panel a chance. My message to referees around the world is to work hard, stay disciplined and never stop learning," he said.
