India thumped England by 7 wickets to go 1-0 up in the T20I series on Wednesday (January 22) at the Eden Gardens. Varun Chakravarthy's three wicket-haul and two each from Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel wrapped up England's innings for a paltry 132 runs. In reply, Abhishek Sharma's magnificent 79 off just 34 deliveries helped India have a comfortable chase.

Opting to bowl first, Arshdeep Singh removed both the English openers cheaply. Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy then weaved his magic thereafter as Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone were knocked over by him in the same over as India were on top. But skipper Jos Buttler kept the fight on for England, scoring a superb 68 off 44 deliveries before Varun came back and dismissed the English skipper as well. Other bowlers too helped Varun with crucial breakthroughs as England were skittled for a paltry 132 runs.


In reply, India came out all the guns blazing as Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma raced their way to 41 runs off just 4.2 overs before Jofra Archer removed the former one on 26. Captain Suryakumar Yadav too fell to Jofra Archer as India lost a bit of momentum in this process. But there was no stopping for Abhishek Sharma, hammering a swashbuckling 79 off just 34 deliveries, clobbering eight massive sixes in his entertaining knock and handed India a comfortable win over England.
